Book Tag: The Birthday Book Tag
Yes. Today is my birthday and what better way to celebrate it on my blog than with a book tag!
Today I am turning 21. Such a huge milestone apparently although I don’t feel anything for it other than the fact that I’m getting older (with more responsibilities *sigh*). I’ve almost been avoiding this day also just because I’m lazy, I tried to pawn off the job of organising my birthday celebrations to like 5 people cause I couldn’t be bothered.
So many people I know have had massive 21st birthday parties with function bookings at venues and $2000 bar tabs but I’d rather just be home chilling with friends and my books. To compromise, I’m hanging out with some friends this weekend to celebrate and tonight having a family dinner. I’m definitely making some time to read today though cause it’s only fair I get to do something I love on my birthday! That and of course, the best unhealthy past time of gorging myself with cake 🙂
I love sharing but I want it all.
Quick Credit: I found today’s birthday book tag from the lovely Kristin Kraves Books.
Let’s go!
Book Tag Part 1
BIRTHDAY CAKE: a book with a plot that seems cliche but you adore it anyway
Unfortunately, one of my least favourite tropes is The Chosen One and even though this series never shuts up about this trope, I love this book so much. I’ve been holding out on finishing the series, I’m like 10% through Morning Star and I keep procrastinating finishing this first trilogy because I just haven’t been in the mood for the kind of epic, complex fantasy I know this series is. Eventually, I’ll finish the last book, until then I can still gush about this one. I do adore it, and I even got my SO so into it that he’s already finished the trilogy before I have!
PARTY GUESTS: your most anticipated book release this year
The Toll by Neal Shusterman
While Scythe was a pretty good book, Thunderhead solidified this trilogy (which we all thought was a duology!) as one of my absolute favourites. I love Neal Shusterman’s work and I’m so excited to see what happens next in this book. I cannot wait for it to come out this year!
BIRTHDAY PRESENTS: a book that surprised you with how much you loved it
The Flower Girls by Alice Clark-Platts
I don’t think I’ll ever stop preaching about this book this year because it just surprised me SO MUCH. I loved it, it had me on the edge and I just highly recommend this book. It’s probably one of my favourites, if not my favourite read of the year.
THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG: a book that certainly deserved all the hype it got
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
I was excited by the hype over a year before the book was published and I cannot tell you how happy I am that it deserved every bit of praise it got. I thoroughly enjoyed this read so much.
HAPPY MUSIC: a book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia
Another absolute favourite that I re-read recently. This book has some beautiful quotes that resonated with me a lot.
“Truth is the worst monster because it never really goes away.”
GETTING OLDER: a book that you read a long time ago, but you think that you would appreciate it more if you read it as a more mature reader
A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
I have tried and failed to read this book and therefore this series 4 times! 4 times. I honestly thought I would only eventually finish it when I’m older and perhaps have read more YA off my TBR. However, I have borrowed the graphic novel volumes 1 and 2 of this book so maybe I’ll actually read it in its entirety even if it’s in a different format.
SWEET BIRTHDAY MEMORIES: a book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life
I was going through an incredibly tough time a long time ago and I vividly remember absolutely devouring this book and loving every minute of it. I had been in a book slump for months and this got me out of it! I definitely always find fondly of it for being there for me.
And that is the birthday tag!
When is/was your birthday and how did you celebrate it?
Let me know in the comments and I’ll try to reply while I celebrate the day 🙂
Until next time,
