January Wrap-Up & February TBR | T’was A Slow Month

Well, January was a doozy. It was a hard month, a busy month and a heartbreaking month. I haven’t said much on here but it was really tough reading and being active on socials because we lost our beloved cat and I had to get back to work after the holiday break and life has just been a wild ride. I’ve been trying to get back into a work routine while dealing with grief and motivation hasn’t been easy.

I hoped to do so well this month but alas, other plans were in store. This post might seem a bit sad but I am trying to be more optimistic and take my time (lots of self-care!). Let’s get onto what I did read though!

What I Read In January

I was really hoping to finish the All Souls trilogy by Deborah Harkness but alas, I only got to halfway. I’m still currently reading Shadow of Night (book 2) but I’m optimistic I can finish the trilogy in February!

Total Books: 3

Total Pages: 1196

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
★★★★ (4/5) | REVIEW TO COME
I’ll prob be doing a series review when I finish the trilogy and will post it up asap 🙂

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
★★★☆ (4/5) | Re-Read & Buddy Read
I finally finished this buddy read book after months of slowly re-reading it. I hope we can buddy read the sequel soon too cause it’s about time I finally read Crooked Kingdom for the first time.

The Dawn Chorus by Samantha Shannon
★★★ (5/5) | NO REVIEW
A stunning novella that bridges The Song Rising and The Mask Falling. I’m so excited to read the next instalment in this series, especially as Samantha has said it is the best book yet in her opinion.

I didn’t blog a whole lot due to my circumstances but here are some of the posts I did manage to publish:

What I Watched In January

I ended up finishing my second re-watch of How I Met Your Mother which I absolutely loved again! That show got me through a lot and I almost want to start watching it again from the beginning. It was great to watch it with my SO who hadn’t watched them all yet.

I also took a risk and watched FATE: The Winx Saga which utterly surprised me. I actually really enjoyed it and binged watched the whole first season in one afternoon/evening, despite me hating every bit of the casting and wardrobe decisions for this show. The plot itself was solid, the episodes were addictive and the acting wasn’t half-bad (but could’ve been better). If the show had had better casting (rip Musa, Flora and Tecna) and spent more time on character development with more episodes, it would 100% be one of my new favourite shows. There were a few cringy acting moments but no show is ever perfect, and it certainly wasn’t as bad as cringe moments from Riverdale or Shadowhunters.

February TBR

It’s so hard to set a reading goal for this month because I’m simply trying to get back into the reading mood. I don’t know how many books I’ll read but I’d really like to finish the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness(Shadow of Night and Book of Life) and read The Mask Falling by Samantha Shannon which I’ve been highly anticipating (and my preorder even came early!). I think I’d be proud of myself for getting through those 3 thick books, and if I read anything else on my lengthy physical tbr; it’s a plus.

What are your reading plans for February?

Until next time,
