Chit Chat Monday: My October Wrap-Up, November TBR & Reading Goals

Welcome to another Monday chit chat post! I had planned to do this last week but work and life were so incredibly hectic now that Melbourne is finally out of lockdown and I didn’t have much time to do anything blog or even reading-related.

I swapped out reading for TV

I found myself watching Buzzfeed Unsolved, Terrace House and the new LoL inspired series Arcane on Netflix to relax because of my crazy schedule in the last week. As a League of Legends player, it was a huge event that took the majority of my Sunday. We watched all 3 episodes that are now currently available and I can confirm that this series is amazing. I’m going to keep watching Terrace House – but I have many thoughts already and this show is truly…weird.

Preparing for Christmas

As someone that works in marketing, I know all too well that Christmas is soon! With my partner having a big family, Christmas is a much bigger affair than I’ve been used to until a year or so ago. This year, I wanted to get ahead and plan so that I’m not looking for gifts last minute or stressing out about my finances. I spent a lot of the weekend doing my Christmas shopping early and shopping centres were SO busy because you can actually go to a retail store now, that it was a workout just getting around, looking for what we wanted to buy. Have you got your Christmas shopping planned out yet? I know I’ve done mine super early but I really wanted to get it out the way.

My Short October Wrap-Up

In October, I read a total of 2 books which I’m pretty happy about. I’ve found myself feeling so much more relieved at letting myself have a life and have multiple hobbies. For me, that means that it’s okay if I’m not reading 20 books a month, but taking the time to slowly go through my TBR and enjoy what I’m reading. I know that reading isn’t my only hobby and when I’m not reading I’m having fun learning the piano, playing games and learning german.

The two books that I read were The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson and Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff. I was reading both as part of the Breath of the wild readathon but due to my slow reading habits, I couldn’t finish Godsgrave before the 20th and instead read it by the 31st! I’m happy to say that I really enjoyed both. I don’t think I’ll be reviewing them but I’m looking forward to their sequels, particularly the last book in the Nevernight Trilogy.

My November TBR & Reading Goals

Currently, I’m reading When we entered that house by Claire L Smith, an IRL author friend of mine. It’s already giving me chills and it’s a superb spooky book that I wish I could’ve read during Halloween.

I’m hoping to finish this short novella this week and keep reading Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. This book is actually for the work book club I created because a few others at work enjoy reading and we loved the idea of having a work book club. We chose a spooky read for October but everyone was too busy to finish it in a month so we’ve made it the book pick for the quarter 🙂 I’m not sure if I want to read the entire book so that I can avoid forgetting details in the leadup to the final book club meeting so this is a book I’ll be picking up every now and then.

A couple of other books I’d love to read in November are Darkdawn, to finally finish the Nevernight trilogy by Jay Kristoff; Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Sutanto, a contemporary novel I started a few months ago and read 50 pages but never actually pick up again so I’m hoping to finish it this time. Last but not least, The Nerd Daily was kind enough to send through the sequel to Loveboat, Taipei which I enjoyed a lot, called Loveboat Reunion. I’m super keen to read that one and see how I feel about it!

What have you been up to lately and what are your plans for November?

I’d love to know if anyone wants to join in on Monday chit chats!

Until next time,

Similar to you Truffles, I’ve been spending more time watching tv as well, I’ve been watching more anime and watching older shows on Netflix. I’ll have to read your review on Loveboat Taipei, its on my tbr. My plans are to catch up on books and post more on the blog. Happy November 😄💖
