Despite the ‘book buying bans’ I’ve tried to instil in myself in previous years, there are always highly anticipated books that I will buy sooner rather than later as I’m so excited to read them. So far in 2023, my list is quite short but I thought I’d talk about it anyway!
Happy Place by Emily Henry
I was one of the few that loved Book Lovers so I’m super excited to get her latest release and see what it’s like! You’ll find that I tend to do into standalone books blind so I don’t know what this one is about but it should hopefully be the cute romance I need this autumn.
Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo
I recently reread Ninth House because I’m anticipating this sequel so highly. I can’t believe it’s been two years since the first book came out, and I loved Ninth House, even more, the second time I read it! I’ve already acquired a copy of Hell Bent and I’m buddy-reading it with my friend Beckle Books. I cannot wait to start it this weekend!
A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon
I loved The Priory of the Orange Tree when I read it years ago and I’m also looking to reread it in February in anticipation of A Day of Fallen Night! As far as I’m aware, A Day of Fallen Night is a prequel, not a direct prequel of the same characters we meet in Priory but one within the same universe. I’m sure I’ll love it if it’s an ounce as good as Priory. The only thing that daunts me is its’ sheer size – similarly to Priory, this book is a chonker.
The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren
I’m such a huge fan of Christina Lauren and obviously, I’m highly anticipating their next romance novel, especially because it’s in the same universe as The Soulmate Equation (one of my 5-star reads!). Thanks to my job at Hachette Australia, I’ve luckily been able to read this book early (and it was amazing), but I still can’t wait to get my hands on a final copy.
Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong
I remember a few years when I devoured These Violent Delights and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Yet, I haven’t read anything from Chloe Gong since, which is why I’m currently trying to get through her backlist (the sequel to These Violent Delights and her latest YA novel, Foul Lady Fortune) before digging into her first adult fantasy book. It is again Asian-inspired and I’m all for it! I don’t know much about it but it’s meant to be action-packed and I’m incredibly excited.
This list of 5 books seems quite short but these are the book I’m currently anticipating for 2023 – this might get longer so I might update it mid-year perhaps?
